National Publication Highlights PCSST’s Commitment to Educational Excellence, Equity, and Student Success
We are proud to announce that Paterson Charter School for Science and Technology (PCSST) has been featured in Education Insider Magazine as a Top Charter School of 2026, recognizing more than two decades of dedication to academic excellence, educational innovation, and expanding opportunities for students.
The feature, titled “Guided by Data, Driven by Students,” explores the educational philosophy, leadership practices, and student-centered initiatives that have shaped PCSST into a thriving K–12 public charter school serving the Paterson community and surrounding areas.
The article highlights several distinguishing aspects of PCSST’s educational approach, including:
- Data-Driven Instruction: Using student performance data, collaborative professional learning communities, and targeted interventions to strengthen teaching and learning across all grade levels.
- Equity in Educational Opportunities: Expanding access to college-level coursework through dual enrollment partnerships, an achievement recognized by the New Jersey Department of Education’s prestigious Lighthouse Award.
- College and Career Readiness: Providing pathways to college credits, associate degrees, professional certifications, and meaningful career exploration while students are still in high school.
- Student Well-Being: Supporting students and families through initiatives such as the Lion’s HUB, which provides accessible mental health and wellness services.
- Whole-Child Development: Creating opportunities for students to excel through athletics, performing arts, JROTC, leadership programs, and community service.
- Community Connections: Building lasting relationships with families and alumni while maintaining a strong commitment to transparency, accessibility, and educational opportunity.
The publication also recognizes PCSST’s distinction as the only charter school among nine recipients of New Jersey’s 2025–2026 Lighthouse Award, acknowledging our efforts to increase equity in dual enrollment participation.
Reflecting on the school’s accomplishments, PCSST Lead Person Mr. Riza Gurcanli emphasized:
“This recognition from the State is a distinctive acknowledgment of our commitment to students and performance, and it reflects over 20 years of dedicated work.”
As PCSST continues its journey of growth and innovation, this national exposure is a meaningful acknowledgment of the collective efforts of our dedicated educators, hardworking students, supportive families, and community partners.
Our success is built on a shared commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their fullest potential.
We invite our entire PCSST community to read the feature and celebrate this recognition of our school’s accomplishments.
