Our 9th grade CCP students successfully executed an ambitious, self-planned excursion to Philadelphia as part of their Congressional Award Program. The rain held off for most of the day, allowing students to lead their way through Independence Hall—the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution—and the historic USS Olympia (world’s oldest battleship) at Penn’s Landing.
After navigating the streets of the historic district and Chinatown, students explored the culinary diversity of Reading Terminal Market, home to more than 80 different food vendors. The high-energy day concluded with a look at popular culture at the ‘Rocky’ statue and finally a visit to the Philadelphia Zoo, America’s oldest. This student-planned trip proved to be both ambitious in scope and immensely rewarding.
