10th Grade Trip to NYC Museum

Students from PCCST 10th Grade United States History I Class went on a field trip to
the New York Historical Society Museum to experience the “We the People” tour. They took a
closer look at images, artifacts, and documents from the past to learn the meaning of this
phrase throughout America’s history. Throughout the year they have learned about the
Declaration of Independence and America’s founding documents. At this exhibit, they were able
to explore artifacts from the founding era and understand how different objects from the past tell
stories and allow students to engage with history. They got an in-depth understanding of
women’s contributions to American history by looking at 45 different objects that represented
how women’s work has always been essential to American society. As part of their tour, they
also watched a film on the history and diversity of New York City from its role in the American
Revolution to its being the most linguistically diverse city in the world. Many students asked
thought-provoking questions about the art and artifacts they observed. They also got to take
turns sitting in a replica of the Oval Office imagining themselves in that seat in the future!
