Celebrating Our Scholars: The 2026 MLK Speech Contest
This past Friday, our school community gathered—both in the Wabash Gym and via live stream—to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through our annual Speech Contest. This year’s theme, “The Drum Major Instinct: Serving Others,” challenged our 4th through 7th-grade scholars to redefine greatness not as a quest for fame, but as a commitment to service and justice. We are incredibly proud of every participant who stepped up to the microphone; their hours of research, writing, and rehearsal were evident in the depth of their analysis and the passion of their delivery.
A special congratulations goes out to our 2025-2026 MLK Speech Contest Winner, Algenis Rodriguez. Algenis moved the audience with a powerful and inspirational speech centered on the life and legacy of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The presentation was exceptionally well delivered, perfectly capturing how Justice Sotomayor channeled her “drum major instinct” to serve the cause of justice for all. Well done, Algenis, and congratulations to all of our courageous speakers for making this year’s contest a truly unforgettable event!
