4-7 Grade Black History Month Celebration, 3/04/2026
Our school’s Black History Month assembly was a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and pride, centered around the powerful legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The program highlighted the rich traditions of institutions such as Howard University and Spelman College, reminding students of the excellence, resilience, and opportunity rooted in these historic institutions.
The artwork on display celebrated Black artists of the past, present, and future. Students created pieces inspired by influential figures, current cultural icons, and their own visions as emerging artists, symbolizing the ongoing impact of creativity within the African American community. Poetry was also beautifully woven into the program, as students delivered powerful spoken-word performances honoring Black history, trailblazers, and the transformative power of education.
The energy in the room soared during the step team performance, paying tribute to the deep-rooted stepping traditions found on many HBCU campuses. The musical selection featured a high-energy hip-hop track, during which students confidently performed an original rap celebrating Black excellence, HBCU pride, and perseverance. The cheerleading performance brought the celebration to life with high spirits and school pride, capturing the excitement and unity of an HBCU homecoming. Overall, the assembly was an inspiring tribute to Black history, artistic expression, and the lasting legacy of HBCUs in shaping future generations.
